Unmissable family activities in London this Spring

Finally, the chill of winter is nearly behind us. So, if the Beast from the East ‘Part Two’ would like to clear off, we’d much certainly welcome some blossom and blue skies. With spring comes Easter, and some nicer weather. And nicer weather comes some unmissable family activities in London.
The capital can make for an excellent day out, or, if you’re a little further afield, an excellent weekend away. So, what takes your fancy in London this spring?

Roam the River Thames

As the weather is a little warmer in spring, a boat tour along the River Thames sounds a little less crazy (plus, the kids are bound to find it super cool!). From the thrill-seeking to the mellow, there’s something for everyone. For those who enjoy an adventure, take advantage of one of the Thames’ famous speed boat tours and zoom under the capital’s many famous bridges whilst marvelling at London’s famous landmarks…what better way to see the city?

Speaking of the River Thomas, the famous boat race between Oxford and Cambridge just so happens to fall in spring. This year, it’s set to be held on the 7th of April, so pick a side and watch one of the biggest free sporting spectacles in London, as well as one of the oldest sporting events in the world. You could even turn it into a competition between the family – whoever picks the right winner, wins a prize!

London Marathon

Shortly after Easter comes the London Marathon. Each year, millions line the street corners and London pubs to cheer the participants on. It’s a 26.2 mile street party with an enormous feel good factor. With live music playing and plenty of cheering to be done, it’s fun for the whole family.

Mother’s Day

There are few better destinations in the UK to celebrate Mother’s Day than London, as there’s so much for you and Mum to see and do. Treat yourself and the family, or let them treat you to a ride on the London Eye and look down on the city’s famous landmarks. London is full of stunning peaceful gardens and idyllic locations, perfect for seeing the first of the spring blossom.

You can share the magic of a West End musical with your whole family, with Wicked, Matilda, Mamma Mia! and the Lion King on, there’s certainly something for everyone.

Easter

Easter is the perfect time for family fun, plus, with the kids off school, London has the perfect array of activities to keep the whole family business. There’s a brilliant free showing of the The Passion of Jesus in Trafalgar Square and many services at London’s churches and cathedrals including Westminster Abbey and St. Paul’s Cathedral.

For younger children, or even the big kids out there, there are various Easter Egg hunts around the capital, including one at Hampton Court Palace! The London Zoo is set to host an awesome Easter-themed adventure and, if the weather continues to be kind to us, an Easter trail among spring daffodils at Kew Gardens will be the perfect picnic opportunity to overindulge in Easter Eggs. The London Wetland Centre nature reserve is also holding its very own Easter Egg hunt amass with hidden treasures.

If you are after a spring getaway to London, look no further than the Dorsett Hotel, City of London. Contemporary elegance in the city with a 24-hour gym and restaurant for your convenience.
